Old-World Charm

When the owners of this elegant, 20,000 square-foot home in Chevy Chase contacted Barry, the family requested something classic, but with old-world patina and sophistication. Barry began by poring over the blueprints with the architect and owners, deconstructing large rooms into more intimate spaces and adding visual interest – curved walls, generous conversation areas in the upper halls, a barrel-vaulted ceiling in the dining room inspired by a Lutyens Arts and Crafts country house in England. Soon a sophisticated structure began to emerge, an old and distinguished grande dame that gracefully evolved over time.
